Windows 8 101: Microsoft Account

A Microsoft account is your key in in unlocking most if not all features in Windows 8.  It’s your email address and password on your Live.com, Hotmail.com, or Outlook.com account. When you connect your Microsoft account in Windows 8, you can access you mails, calendar, contacts, and thousands of apps.  This account will also give you access to SkyDrive online storage worth 7GB so you can access your files virtually anywhere.

To connect your Microsoft account in Windows 8,

  • Get your Charms by swiping your finger on to the right edge of your screen or pointing your mouse cursor to the right upper corner of your screen
  • Click /tap on the Settings charm > Change PC settings
  • On the PC settings in the Users tab click on Connect to a Microsoft account if you already have an existing Live.com, Outlook.com, or Hotmail.com account just enter your username and password, click Next and Ok.

  • Alternatively you may create a new account by clicking on Sign up for a Microsoft account

  • Creating a Microsoft account is as easy as creating your first email address.  Do remember your user |ID and password because once connected, this will be your password every time you sign in to Windows 8.
