Office 2010… which is which?

Now that Microsoft Office 2010 is out in the market, lets see which version is right for you and will fit your everyday productivity needs.  Office 2010 has a total of six (6) versions, 3 in retail channels, 2 in volume licensing and 1 for the academic purposes.  Whoever you are, whatever you do there’s an Office 2010 that is right for you. Let’s compare editions.

For retail channels, which means that these versions will be available in you favorite computer stores. We have Office 2010 Home and Student, Home add Business, and Professional.

Note: The retail license terms for Office Home and Student 2010 allow for installation on up to three home computers. Not intended for use in any commercial, nonprofit, or revenue generating business activities, or by any government organization.

If you are in the enterprise or have a business of you own and you need to purchase five or more licenses of Office 2010 perhaps it’s good to consider the Standard Edition or the Professional Plus Editions.  Compare below.

Window 7 Freebies? Go to Gilmore!

win7 A lot of fans in the windows7ako fan page is asking how can they get or avail of the limited Windows 7 items like the jacket, shirts, ID lace / lanyard, button pins, pens etc.  Yesterday, after purchasing my netbook, I noticed a booth in front of a PC store along Gilmore Avenue in Quezon CIty and make usisa what is it.  I found out that the booth if from Microsoft and they are giving limited Windows 7 items.  You just need to play the Panchinko Ball, then you’ll get a Windows 7 freebie, as easy as that!  Now here’s the catch, in order to play the game you have to show a receipt indicating that you have purchased a genuine Windows 7  or any participating MS Office Product.  Haha! So what are you waiting for, rush to Gilmore now, buy a Genuine Windows 7, play the game and get your freebie! :)  It’s a simple way of Microsoft to say thank you for buying a genuine Windows 7!

P. S. Just by visiting the booth will get a free cold iced tea too ahahahaha :P

Ancient OS @ 50% Off :)

Vista50 With the introduction of Windows 7 to the PC Republic (?) :), it’s clearly that it (Windows 7) outflanked the sales of its predecessors, the Vista and XP.  It’s not also surprising that PC retail stores has this difficulty of selling retail versions Vista and XP due to Windows 7’s popularity.  Who wants Vista and XP if Windows 7 has it all?  Windows 7 has clearly the speed of XP and the improved looks of Vista!

Now here’s the proof! Last week I went to Park Square 1 in Makati to buy an ink for my Mom’s printer.  During my visit to certain computer stores, I’ve seen retail versions of Windows Vista and XP displayed in a shelf with a red tag that it sells at 50% Off! :p

I’ve nothing against Windows Vista and XP since they also came from Microsoft and good OSes if I may add, but with Windows 7, anything is possible! (haha) :p

@ ---> ie9 is on the Move!

ie9 The successor of Internet Explorer 8 is already available for preview.  Though it’s still in the construction stage, Internet Explorer 9 seems very promising! The said IE9 Platform Preview is aimed at web developers and techie people.

Microsoft’s Dean Hachamovich promised that the IE9 Platform Preview will be updated every 8 weeks.  Counting from now the next update will be in mid-may and the next will be sometime in July.  He however did not mention when will be the finished product will be  made available to the public.

The said Platform Preview will only run on PCs with Windows 7, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server R2 platforms.

I just downloaded the IE9 Platform Preview and guess what, it’s just like a skeleton (haha :)) I tried to use it to open an certain webpage and to my amazement it’s very fast in rendering the page considering that the page has lot of graphics to load!  It seems that Google’s browser Chrome has found its worthy opponent! (haha)

Since it’s still in a preview stage, IE 9 lacks numerous features that the IE8 has.  Though it can open and render web pages, there’s no address bar, no user navigation tools, no security features such as the SmartScreen anti-malware filter and of course the favorite InPrivate Browsing

I know that you loved what Microsoft has done to your IE8 with all it’s useful tools and it’s security features, but the preview is just Microsoft’s way to share what have they already accomplished in developing IE8’s successor.  So if your not that super techie, risk taker, and adventurous with your PC, I suggest that you wait until the finished product is ready for you to explore!

Here is the download link for the Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview.

preview Oh, by the way, downloading and installing the Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview will not replace the your current IE browser such as the IE7 and IE8 on Windows Vista and Windows 7 respectively.  The Platform Preview will run alongside with your current IE browser.
