Good news for Mac but I’m still a PC.  Mac is very lucky for Microsoft extends it’s efforts to make them a productivity suite.  But for a PC like me Windows 7 + Office 2010 = Reliability and efficiency at it’s best!

Live Spaces migrates to Wordpress.com

image

I just recently visited my other blog at Live Spaces and the first thing that struck me was a notice telling me that Spaces will be gone soon and giving me an option to upgrade to WordPress.com (is it really an upgrade or migration?)  and I think this is for the better, which means better tools and better blogging experience!  For those who are using Spaces, Windows Live made it easy for you guys to upgrade / migrate to WordPress in just few easy steps.   WordPress will automatically import you blog contents to your  new account then you can start customizing your new site!

With the partnership of Windows Live and WorPress there are three things they want to deliver to their costumers:

        • Giving existing Windows Live Spaces customers an easy upgrade of their blogging experience to WordPress.com
    • Letting anyone connect their WordPress.com blog to Messenger so their Messenger friends are updated when they publish a new post on WordPress.com
    • Allowing Windows Live customers to easily create new blogs on WordPress.com

At the moment there are about 30 million people who are using  Windows Live Spaces and this 30 million will move to WordPress if they will accept the upgrade offer.  Can WordPress accommodate them all?  They also promised that they will redirect our old Spaces URLs to our new blog so as not to lose our visitors along the way. To start moving to WordPress just go to your Space and you’ll a prompt like this:

If you’re not yet ready to upgrade you’ll have three choices, download your blog to your PC, visit your old space, or delete your space.  Should you consider to migrate WordPress will help you to create a new blog on the web and when the New Windows Live Essentials 2011 will come out, WordPress will be the default blogging solution of Windows Live Writer.

I decided to preserve my Space so I migrated to WordPress and currently I’m on the process of customizing and modifying my new blog account (www.techiemt.wordpress.com).  For more information in migrating to WordPress you may visit the WordPress.com support center.

7 Tips for Buying a Laptop

7 tips for buying a laptop

Top 7 things to do before you buy a laptop

If you haven't shopped for a PC in a while, you might be surprised at what you can get without spending a ton of money. And the options are virtually limitless. From size and color to speed and hardware you'll be able to find the perfect laptop for you. With so many choices, it's good to have a shopping plan before you get started. Here are 7 things to do before you buy.

1

Get started with a quick 101

To make sure you get exactly what you need, it helps to understand the options you'll have. Kind of like knowing about gas mileage and stereo system upgrades when you shop for a car. So if "RAM" and "processor" aren't in your standard vocabulary, we can help get you up to speed. Our Windows PC Scout interactive guide will take you through a quick laptop crash course that teaches you the basics and helps you decide which features are right for you.

2

Compare PCs side by side

Comparing PCs side by side is a great way to zero in on the right one for you. Visit a store and spend time with the different models on display. See what works for you: look at the monitor, keyboard, and check the weight. Of course, you have a lot more choices online than in most stores. Many retailers and PC manufacturers offer a way to compare different PCs on their websites. Windows PC Scout includes a collection of top PCs that you can compare side by side. You can also browse by usage category, such as gaming or working on the go.

Remove Background in MS Word 2010 Amazes a Fashion Designer!

imageMicrosoft Word 2010 is already in the mainstream for a couple of months now but to some people who are not that techie MS Word 2010 is just another of a word processor.  I beg to disagree, Word 2010 is more than that!  With its new and improved features it can amaze somebody,  and that somebody will going to love the new Word 2010!

It was around 9 PM when my friend / housemate Kristoffer Magboo, a fashion designer and image stylist, is asking me how to print a photo in gray scale.  He has to print a photo of his designs.  So I thought him how, he inserted a picture in MS Word 2010, it turned out that the picture was captured using a digital camera.  A supposedly white background became grayish due to inadequate lighting.  Upon seeing the picture, an idea came into my mind, what if I’ll use the Remove Background feature of MS Word, will it do the trick?  So I asked him permission to manipulate his picture and said OK.  So what I did was, I clicked the photo, directed my mouse pointer to the Remove Background button in the Picture Tools contextual tab, marked the areas to keep, marked the areas to remove, then I hit keep changes.  The next thing I heard from Kris was, “Whooooaaa how did you do that?  Ang galing!” So I explained to him Word 2010 has already the power to manipulate and edit pictures and I also thought him how to do it too.

Remove Background is just one of the new features of MS Word 2010, there are more to be explored.  This what I like with MS Office, it keeps on innovating!

Below is the before and after of the picture I manipulated…
