I just recently visited my other blog at Live Spaces and the first thing that struck me was a notice telling me that Spaces will be gone soon and giving me an option to upgrade to WordPress.com (is it really an upgrade or migration?) and I think this is for the better, which means better tools and better blogging experience! For those who are using Spaces, Windows Live made it easy for you guys to upgrade / migrate to WordPress in just few easy steps. WordPress will automatically import you blog contents to your new account then you can start customizing your new site!
With the partnership of Windows Live and WorPress there are three things they want to deliver to their costumers:
- Giving existing Windows Live Spaces customers an easy upgrade of their blogging experience to WordPress.com
- Letting anyone connect their WordPress.com blog to Messenger so their Messenger friends are updated when they publish a new post on WordPress.com
- Allowing Windows Live customers to easily create new blogs on WordPress.com
At the moment there are about 30 million people who are using Windows Live Spaces and this 30 million will move to WordPress if they will accept the upgrade offer. Can WordPress accommodate them all? They also promised that they will redirect our old Spaces URLs to our new blog so as not to lose our visitors along the way. To start moving to WordPress just go to your Space and you’ll a prompt like this:
If you’re not yet ready to upgrade you’ll have three choices, download your blog to your PC, visit your old space, or delete your space. Should you consider to migrate WordPress will help you to create a new blog on the web and when the New Windows Live Essentials 2011 will come out, WordPress will be the default blogging solution of Windows Live Writer.
I decided to preserve my Space so I migrated to WordPress and currently I’m on the process of customizing and modifying my new blog account (www.techiemt.wordpress.com). For more information in migrating to WordPress you may visit the WordPress.com support center.
