Free 1 year anti-virus subscriptions for your Windows 7 PC

With Windows 7 launch throughout the world, we users are going to need a decent antivirus that can be integrated with this new Microsoft operating system to protect our data and files and our PC itself.  Three software companies have responded to this and offered free one (1 ) year subscription of their antivirus software.

One is the IObit Security 360 Pro.  This is an advanced anti-malware and anti-spyware utility that detects and cure infections and protect our PCs from several possible threats from spyware, adware, trojans, keyloggers, bots, worms, and hijackers.  Side-by-side with your antivirus, this software will give you a superb security

There are other two antivirus software  that offers the same deal the Panda Internet Security 2010 and the Kaspersky Internet Security 2010.  Unfortunately and very frustrating the Panda Internet Security 2010 is offered only to U.S. residents and the offer last only during the first 24 hours of Windows 7 launch on October 22, 2009.  So there’s no way that we here in the Philippines can download this product.  On the other hand, I tried to download the Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 but their site / page was asking for a host email.  According to the download page, the host email is email address your host used to sign up at houseparty.com, which means only selected few who were invited by the host from houseparty.com has the privilege for the said offer.   Since i was left with only one choice I downloaded the IObit Security 360 Pro, and started to use it side-by-side with my Avira Free Antivirus and of course our very own Microsoft Security Essentials.

The Waiting is Over! Windows 7 is Here!

It was two days ago, October 22, 2009 Windows 7 has touched down the market after its official global launching! While this new operating system from Microsoft has been available for commercial costumers and developers since July, the final version is now available to the general public via new PCs preloaded with the OS and or retail purchase.

The Journey
As far as I can remember, the journey of Windows 7 begun as early as 2008 during its first external release of the Milestone 1 (build 6519) in January 2008, then came the build 6801 distributed at the Professional Developers Conference 2008 (PDC).  On December 27, 2008 Windows 7 Beta was leaked via numerous torrent sites before the release of the official Beta release, people tested the leaked beta acknowledge the superiority of Windows 7 from its predecessors (XP and Vista).  On January 9, 2009 the Beta release has been made available to 2.5 million people who wants to see the new operating system.  As I remember, it took me two days to download the Beta due to the overwhelming traffic.  I was amazed with the new look and new interface of the Beta but a bit disappointed because my video card is not supported which is the cause of hanging and crashing of my PC.

While MSDN and Technet subscribers are already enjoying Windows 7 RC (Release Candidate) build 7100 as early as April 30, 2009, the official release of the of the RC to the general public was on May 5, 2009 dawning another period of evaluation.  The release candidate is available in five languages.  For those who are still enjoying the  release candidate like me, you must know that it will expire on June 1, 2010 , with shutdowns every two hours starting March 1, 2010,  please do a back-up of your files before the said dates and downgrade you operating system to much lower version of Windows unless you already acquired a copy of the final version of Windows 7.

On July 22, 2009 Windows 7 along with Windows Server 2008 R2 were released to manufacturing (RTM).  The said version is build 7600.16385 and was compiled on July 13, 2009 and was declared as the final RTM build after passing all internal tests done by Microsoft.
During the launch of Windows 7 on October 22, Amazon UK’s managing director Brian McBride claimed that Windows 7 is the biggest-grossing pre-order of all-time storming ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows!

That’s it folks, Windows 7 is here! It’s time for us to move-on with the newest Operating System in the planet!

No More Torrents from The Pirate Bay

If you are a frequent visitor of the torrent site The Pirate Bay you might notice some changes and ask is something wrong?

According to the report from TorrentFreak, the Amsterdam court ruled against The Pirated Bay and ordered the site administrators to remove all copyrighted torrents from the said site within three months.  During the initial ruling of the Dutch court, The Pirate Bay was ordered to block access to Dutch citizens; a decision that has been nullified after the appeal of the site founders.  After the said appeal, The Parate Bay (which is not guilty of copyright infringement), the court ruled that it is guilty of assisting copyright infringement.

BREIN, the Dutch anti-piracy body will supply Pirate Bay the list of copyrighted works that must be remove or deleted from the site within three months, with a fine of $7,500 per person, per day.

Windows 7 Community Launch Party

After months of Beta testing and Release Candidate evaluation, on Thursday, October 22, 2009, Windows 7, the most anticipated Operating System of all time will be launched globally. Microsoft Philippines will join the celebration by holding a party at their headquarters located at 6750 Ayala Ave., Makati. They reserved 200 slots and exclusive invites for Technology Executives, IT Managers, Managers, CIO, CTO, Customer Management, IT Directors, Students, Technical Decision Makers, Consumers, Developers, and Information Workers to to see and evaluate the final version of the said operating system. There will be demos, presentations, discussions, Q&A for this newest operating Windows operating system.

I’ve been using Windows 7 since the Beta test and i found it very cool! It has the improved features of Windows Vista and the speed of Windows XP! It has almost the same system requirements of Windows Vista so it means that Vista users can easily upgrade to Windows 7 without hassles. Microsoft really did a good job in designing this operating system. To be honest I never used Vista as my operating system for I’ve seen the so many glitches and also the looks at the faces of my housemates and friends using it.

For those whore are invited to the launch party, see you there! For those who are not, the official launching of of Windows 7 in the Philippines is on November 7, 2009 at the Cyberzone SM City North EDSA!

How to buy a PC in Gilmore!

For a first time computer buyer, buying a personal computer (PC) is as easy as 1-2-3. You’re going to:

1. Choose;

2. Order; and

3. Pay for your unit

Then presto you have your new PC! But let me teach you what I learned in buying a PC because I know that one should not spend a lot in acquiring a a new one. In purchasing a pc,you have to consider the following:

1. Consider what will be its purpose. Whether for gaming, for web surfing, for office use, for video and audio editting, etc, there’s a pc suited for your needs!;

2. Consider also the value for your money. You have to compare prices before you decide! You have to visit other coomputer store for they might offer you a much better deal! And;

3. Specifications. You have to choose the hardware to be installed in your new PC. It might be tedious if you are not well versed in computers, but hey there’s always a room for learning! You have to research or to ask! Don’t just go buy a packaged pc for you might regret it!

I remember the last time I bought a brand new pc for my cousins I just spent PhP 13,000.00 for a complete set! And the good thing is that the package comes with a Acer 15” LCD monitor! How so? Well I considered the users of the pc, they are kids, and the purpose for the computer is mainly for school projects, internet browsing, and games. System specs is Intel Celeron 430 1.8 GHz, ECS G31T/M7 mainboard with built in sound and video card, 250 Gb HDD, and 1 Gb RAM. This is a good deal when you’re considering your budget!
